Candy Cane & Chocolate Cone Cakes

Leilani Lowry

I couldn't let the holidays go by without a yummalicious recipe for you!  If you've got some extra candy canes lying around, this is a perfect use for them!

Using Devil's Food Cake mix, I added 2 teaspoons of peppermint to the mix and replaced the water with milk to give the cake a more made-from-scratch flavor.  Here's the rub: the batter spilled over the side of a few cone cakes while baking.  I put in the usual amount of batter but it rose higher than normal.  I'm guessing it was the change in liquid, so if you follow these directions, put in a bit less batter than your normally would.

Also, I used 4 cups of sugar because I find 6 cups to be too sweet.  Play with it!  You can always add more sugar as you go along.  I read that Domino powdered sugar has a less grainy consistency than other brands.  Good to know!

Place some candy canes in a baggie and crush them with a mallet or the bottom of a glass.  Sprinkle on the completed cone cakes.  They add a nice touch!

I wish for you a beautiful holiday season.
